The Experience That Shaped My Purpose
A story I never planned to live — but was born to tell
My name is Teyeonia Chauntaye Ferrell, Founder, Chief Executive Officer & President of She Thrives Foundation Inc. My journey with women’s health began years before cancer, from complications and continuous bleeding after an IUD in 2008 to being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in 2018 after years of heavy cycles, hormonal challenges, fertility struggles, and often feeling unheard in my own care.
On September 6, 2024, excessive blood loss left me barely able to walk and sent me to the emergency room searching for answers. Less than two weeks later, on my birthday, September 19, 2024, I underwent an MRI—and that same day, a mass was discovered on my endometrium. Hearing that a mass had been found stopped me in my tracks. I felt afraid, angry, numb, overwhelmed, and uncertain about what would come next.
On September 24, I was called in for an emergency D&C to determine what the mass was, and just three days later, on September 27, 2024, I received the diagnosis that changed my life: endometrial cancer. In the midst of fear, appointments, treatment, and emotional exhaustion, I kept thinking about the countless women facing similar battles without enough information, advocacy, support, or community.
That is why I founded She Thrives Foundation Inc.—to transform my pain into purpose by raising awareness of PCOS and endometrial cancer, empowering women to advocate for their health, and creating a sisterhood where no woman has to navigate her journey alone. To me, She Thrives represents resilience, faith, strength, survival, and the belief that even through pain and uncertainty, we can still rise, advocate, heal, and thrive.
